LGROW recently tested 30 outfalls in the City of Ferrysburg for illicit discharge. Outfalls are pipes connected to catch basins, or storm drains, that direct stormwater straight into a body of water, such as the Grand River or its smaller tributaries. Every 5 years, these outfalls are tested to ensure everything that is flowing through is safe and nothing is being illegally discharged or dumped. LGROW Stormwater Coordinator, Cara, reminds us that, "we want to make sure only rain is going down the drain". Learn more about stormwater here

The drains can only be tested in certain weather conditions and is regulated by a permitting process.
